Distribution MonitoringAs the cost of replacing infrastructure increases for utilities, engineers are being forced to find ways to examine methods to extend life while increasing reliability. In order to successfully accomplish this, more real-time data must be available for entry into system models and analysis tools. Until now, the cost of retrieving this real-time data was prohibitive. The DCX is ideal for distribution monitoring with its ability to track data in real-time and by reducing the need for onsite visits to remote locations. The unit is capable of interrogating various types of equipment via a standard serial port. For primary-voltage or high-tension locations, the DCX is mounted directly on a poll and interfaced with a standard electric meter. Using metrology data from the meter, the DCX can send real-time and actionable data back in frequent intervals. To satisfy the environmental challenges of installation on underground networks, the DCX and a standard meter are packaged inside a NEMA 6P enclosure. The DCX serves as an inexpensive solution for the retrieval of real-time data and installations in harsh environments. Any data that can be retrieved from a standard commercial meter can be retrieved including phase voltages, phase currents, phase angles and kw usuage. Other parameters are retrieved from the DCX itself and include Feeder ID and temperature.
