Itron Expands C&I Product Offering with Elster Electricity SmartMeter
Spokane, WA — February 4, 2003
Itron (NASDAQ: ITRI) today announced the release and commercial availability of the Elster Electricity (formerly ABB Electricity Metering) SmartMeter, enabling electric utilities to collect metering data from commercial and industrial customers using advanced metering technology and wireless communications.
The Elster Electricity SmartMeter is the result of the integration of SmartSynch’s SmartMeter technology with an Elster A3 ALPHA® electronic revenue meter. The Elster SmartMeter is compliant with ANSI C12.19 standards. All components of the SmartMeter are fully integrated inside the cavity of the meter, enabling easy installation for the utility.

Itron and SmartSynch signed an agreement last year, under which Itron became the exclusive distributor of SmartSynch’s SmartMeter technology, bringing together two premier providers of C&I metering solutions. The SmartMeter System interfaces seamlessly with Itron’s industry-standard MV-90 head end.
