SmartSynch Joins the ZigBee Alliance

Jackson, MS — February 25, 2008

SmartSynch, a pioneer of public wireless smart metering technology, has joined the ZigBee Alliance -- a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless solutions for use in residential, commercial and industrial applications. As a Participant member, SmartSynch will apply its expertise in providing complete Advanced Metering Infrastructure solutions to the many ZigBee applications gaining adoption today.

“The ZigBee Alliance welcomes SmartSynch as a Participant Member and we look forward to their contributions and expertise,” said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. “SmartSynch joins more than 250 members who are actively involved in creating ZigBee products and services.”

SmartSynch initially will be focused on the integration of ZigBee radios and application profile functionality in its family of SmartMeters. The electricity meter stands to provide an important ubiquitous platform for a number of consumer-oriented and environmentally friendly innovations in the near future. SmartSynch expects to see an explosion of interest in Home Area Networks due to the emphasis electric utilities are placing on building new infrastructure to serve customers.

“SmartSynch has a lengthy history of innovation in the advanced metering industry, and the emergence of Home Area Networks will be a crucial area of new ideas for a long time to come," said Dr. Henry L. Jones, Chief Technology Officer at SmartSynch. "The ZigBee Alliance has done a tremendous job as the leader of the HAN application development efforts.”

The ZigBee Alliance is currently more than 250 Alliance Members strong and has a presence in 28 countries spanning six continents. OEMs and end-product manufacturers represent 50 percent of the global membership. ZigBee is the only standards-based technology designed to address the unique needs of low-cost, low-power, wireless sensor networks for energy management and efficiency, home and commercial building automation, plus embedded network applications in the industrial and consumer markets. Companies who want to have input on developing the ZigBee specification and create ZigBee products can join the Alliance by visiting www.zigbee.org/en/join. The ZigBee Specification is available for free download from the ZigBee website.
