SmartSynch and Jackson State University Launch Internship Program

Jackson, MS — March 5, 2007

SmartSynch, a global leader in public wireless smart metering technology serving the utility industry, has launched an internship program with Jackson State University (JSU), in Jackson, Miss. Through the program, which began in January, four students from the Department of Computer Engineering at JSU are working at SmartSynch three days a week for three hours per day on average. They include: Alescia Malone (Junior), Mohamed Idris (Junior), Lionel F. Lovett (Senior), and Vineeth Paul Tuluri (Senior). Their responsibilities center around the development and testing of SmartSynch’s SmartMeter® products, which are currently being supplied to major utility companies throughout North America.

“We’re excited about providing these deserving students an opportunity to blend their embedded software expertise with real-world applications, while harnessing their initiative and desire to learn for the greater good of our company,” said Dr. Henry Jones, SmartSynch’s Chief Technology Officer.

The program was initiated by Dr. Jones, a member of JSU’s Computer Engineering Department Advisory Board. He proposed it to JSU professor Dr. Kamal Ali, who assembled a list of interested candidates. SmartSynch executives then interviewed each candidate for the available positions. “GPA was a key factor in the selection process,” said Dr. Jones. “We wanted to send a message to students that hard work in the classroom has its rewards.” Dr. Jones is optimistic the program will be ongoing – with new interns rotating through on a periodic basis – to allow as many qualified students as possible to benefit.
