Wireless Technology Expert Joins High Growth Company

Jackson, MS — May 3, 2006

SmartSynch, a global leader in wireless smart metering technology for the energy industry, has named Rick Bernheim as Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology.

Bernheim has almost three decades of experience in the wireless technology and telecommunications industries having developed and managed high growth strategies for a variety of successful companies prior to joining SmartSynch. Previously, Bernheim was Vice President of Engineering of the $350 million Microwave Communications Division at Harris Corporation, a $3 billion international telecommunications company which acquired his former company, Wavetrace, Inc. As a member of the senior management team of Wavetrace, he oversaw the development of millimeter-wave point-to-multipoint communications systems, which provided the catalyst for the Harris acquisition. Prior to Wavetrace, he also served as General Manager for Acorn Technologies, where he led initiatives in digital communications technologies for industry OEMs.

“Over the last several years, SmartSynch has created a foundation for future success though innovation and customer commitment,” said SmartSynch CEO Stephen Johnston. “The significant increase in the demand for our products mandated that we bring aboard a leader with a long history of successful growth management and strategic vision. As we navigate through this period of high growth, Rick’s experience in cultivating successful technology businesses helps ensure that we maintain the highest levels of operational excellence and remain on the cutting edge of new technologies.”

Bernheim’s previous experience also includes leadership positions with ComStream, Inc., where he served as Vice President of Engineering, Chief Technology Officer, Vice President of Business Development and General Manager of the Satellite Products Division. In 1998, he led activities associated with the divestiture of ComStream. In 1986, he was instrumental in coordinating a leveraged buyout from GE to acquire Cylix, a satellite networking company. Bernheim and team successfully restructured the company and expanded its product line, leading to the company’s sale in 1990 to France Telecom. He continued at France Telecom Cylix as Vice President of Engineering and Development until he joined ComStream in 1994.

Bernheim holds a degree in electrical engineering from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. He has two patents pending related to wireless communications systems, and has been a guest speaker and teacher at industry events and universities.
