SmartSynch Adds Veteran Utility Leader to Executive TeamJackson, MS — May 16, 2005 SmartSynch, a global leader in wireless technology for the energy industry, has named Bryan Seal as vice president of engineering. Seal, a registered professional engineer, will lead SmartSynch’s software, hardware and firmware engineering efforts. He brings 23 years of utility distribution and meter engineering experience to SmartSynch, from Mississippi Power Company (MPC), a subsidiary of The Southern Company. While at MPC, he led the Metering Services Group’s automatic meter reading (AMR) projects from 1986 until 2005. Additionally, Seal served on The Southern Company Metering Services Technical Committee that oversaw all metering technology solutions deployed throughout The Southern Company’s four-state service region. “Bryan is well regarded throughout our industry as a smart metering expert having evaluated and implemented a myriad of AMR technologies over the last three decades. His deep understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of these technologies coupled with his pioneering spirit make him an outstanding complement to our existing team,” said Stephen D. Johnston, SmartSynch’s chief executive officer. “His proven leadership and knowledge in this field will strengthen our position as an industry leader.” While working with Mississippi Power’s Metering Services Group, Seal was responsible for deploying and maintaining AMR metering systems on large retail customers (C&I), wholesale delivery points, MPC distribution substations, transmission interchange metering, MPC generation stations, residential pilot projects and specialty metering designed for load research projects. Seal is a 1982 graduate of Mississippi State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a member of both AMRA and IEEE and is a past member of the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) Metering and Service Devices subcommittee, where he served as chairman.
