SmartSynch has developed a platform and laid the foundations for a smart grid ecosystem to provide the most effective solution for utilities, commercial and industrial customers and renewable energy providers.
SmartSynch technology is built on truly open standards such as IP and leverages cellular networks, which are already built on a massive scale with billions of users around the world. This model allows for developers to join SmartSynch in building the new smart grid ecosystem for the benefit of all.
The SmartSynch platform combines a suite of IP-enabled SmartMeters, GridRouters and smart software to address customers’ most critical needs without creating more problems with laborious installation requirements and complex deployments. Each IP-enabled SmartSynch device is “plug and play” to make deployment and maintenance simple and cost-effective. SmartSynch’s software solutions use data collection, network management and predictive analytics to help customers avoid blackouts, shave peak electricity use, trend distributed generation, visualize electricity loads, model temperatures, map network assets and optimize the use of installed assets.
With an installed base of hundreds of thousands of devices, the effectiveness and reliability of the SmartSynch platform is self-evident from customer meter read rate data at over 98 percent (the highest in the industry) to high customer satisfaction with the speed and effectiveness of deployments. Some examples of how customers use the SmartSynch platform include:
- Mapping energy use trends to optimize power consumption
- Providing demand response programs offering incentives for business owners who curtail their energy use during times of peak demand, helping them reduce their carbon footprints and capture tax benefits
- Supporting large-scale intermittent renewable generation initiatives (e.g., solar panels and wind energy)
- Facilitating real-time notifications of power outages so that dispatch teams can ensure on-site power quality
- Remotely controlling commercial and industrial customers’ back-up generators during the summer, when load becomes critical, to shave ‘peak’ in real-time and avoid manual site visits to each generator
- Remotely retrieving energy and demand registers, power quality and interval data from residential meters to support demand response, demand-side management, time-of-use pricing and other in-home programs
- Remotely monitoring steam levels under city streets, by communicating temperature and water-level data from manholes, to prevent steam-trap backups
